Tanzania Weather And Climate

Tanzania Weather and Climate

Planning a safari trip in Tanzania requires understanding the local weather, as the country’s tropical climate varies greatly by region, primarily due to differences in elevation. Highland areas like Arusha and the Ngorongoro Crater have milder days and cooler nights, while coastal regions such as Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam are warmer and more humid.

Tanzania has two main seasons that affect tourism: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, from June to October, is the best time for safaris. During this period, the weather is sunny, animals gather around waterholes, and vegetation is sparse, making wildlife easier to spot. The wet season, from March to May, brings lush landscapes and fewer tourists, offering a quieter, more scenic experience, though some areas may be harder to access. Each season offers unique advantages, so the best time to visit depends on your preferences.

Tanzania Weather and Climate FAQ'S

What is Tanzania’s climate like?

Tanzania, being near the equator, has a tropical climate with a long dry season and two rainy seasons. It also features regional climate variations. Northern Tanzania has gentler weather than the south, which can be hot and dry. However, the hottest and most humid weather occurs toward the coast. At altitude, temperatures are moderate all year but plunge at night.

When is winter and when is summer?

Tanzania does not have a typical summer or winter season. Instead, it has two wet seasons and a five-month dry season. However, Tanzania has two dry seasons.

The greatest time to see wildlife in Tanzania is during the primary dry season, which lasts from June to October. The short, unpredictable rains arrive in November and December, but have a minimal influence on safaris. A short dry time from January to February can be both hot and beautiful. During the long rainy season, which lasts from March to May, heavy rain is expected almost every day.

What are the temperatures like in Tanzania?

Tanzania’s dry season, which lasts from June to October, is distinguished by its driest and mildest temperatures. Temperatures vary between 20°C (68°F) and 30°C (86°F) depending on where you stay. June is the coolest month while October is the hottest month in the dry season. Temperatures begin to rise even further in November and December.
